Surfski-Holland nodigt uit! Komend weekend, zondag 5 juni om precies te zijn, wordt er gepaddeld voor onze planeet. Het is idee is dat de verschrikkelijke dingen die nu gebeuren met onze zeeën, die wij als lifesavers misschien wel dagelijks gebruiken, meer in de bekendheid terecht komen. De organisatoren willen dat alle peddelaars weten hoe het er tegenwoordig aan toe gaat en willen nu ook iets doen om een verschil te maken. En daarbij is natuurlijk alle hulp welkom.

So, Paddle for the Planet's aim is to support Marine conservation. As it grows we will endeavor to support all kinds of Marine Conservation but for this year and the next we are going to raise funds for a marine reserve in Raja Ampat, Indonesia and keep it protected. Each year we want to grow this idea branching out further and further as more paddlers get involved keeping more and more waters protected.
Some things for you to be aware of:
- Each year, three times as much rubbish is dumped into the world's oceans as the weight of fish caught. (www.marinebio.org)
- 32% of the world's fisheries are overexploited, depleted or recovering, which threatens the health, economy, and livelihoods of communities all over the world. The global fishing fleet is estimated to be 250% larger than needed to catch what the ocean can sustainably produce. (www.marinebio.org)
- Every year tens of millions of sharks die a slow death because of finning. Finning is the inhumane practice of hacking off the shark's fins and throwing its still living body back into the sea. The sharks either starve to death, are eaten alive by other fish, or drown (if they are not in constant movement their gills cannot extract oxygen from the water). Shark fins are being "harvested" in ever greater numbers to feed the growing demandfor shark fin soup, an Asian "delicacy". (www.stopsharkfinning.net)
Het betreft hier een wereldwijde actie, maar wat gaat er gebeuren in Nederland?
Er wordt ca. 10 km gevaren met zo veel mogelijk paddelers om een statement te maken naar de wereld, allemaal namens Paddle For the Planet. Bij mooi weer en leuke golfjes op zee wordt er verzameld bij strandtent Riche in het zonovergoten Zandvoort. Adres is Boulevard 67, 2041 JA Zandvoort. Wanneer de zee toch iets te ruig is, zal er uitgeweken worden naar het kanocentrum in Wormer, Poelweg 1B 1531 MB Wormer.
Aankondigingen, definitieve locatie en anderssoortige huishoudelijke mededelingen worden vooraf bekend gemaakt via de Surfski-Holland pagina op Facebook! De link staat onderaan deze pagina. De eerste vooruitzichten zijn al goed te noemen: 17 °C, zon en 70cm aan golf.
Stipt om 08:00 uur wordt er een foto genomen van de complete groep, dus zorg dat je haar goed zit. Deze foto wordt de hele wereld over gezonden om te laten weten dat wij staan voor een schonere planeet!
